Arsenal Museum commemorates Vietnam War

Darryl Howlett, Rock Island Arsenal

Veterans who served in Vietnam are the focus of a new exhibit at the Rock Island Arsenal Museum. It opened yesterday as part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the beginning of the war.

Museum Director, Kris Leinicke, says the new permanent exhibit shows how the arsenal was involved in the Vietnam war.

The display also features uniforms from Marine Corps veteran Howard VanWinkle and a photography collage from field artillery veteran Cliff Howard.

Leinicke says one portion of the exhibit focuses on art.

The exhibit opening followed a ceremony marking the war's anniversary that included a reading of the names of service members from this area killed during the war.
