The homeless, victims of domestic violence, and young people will be among those receiving help in the coming year thanks to the Amy Helpenstell Foundation. Today it presented its latest grants - to 28 non-profit organizations, and totalling 357,000 dollars.
Habitat for Humanity will receive 10,000 dollars for its next, new home, Christian Care will use 20,000 dollars for counseling and case management at its domestic violence shelter, and the YWCA and King Center will each receive money for their youth programs.
Another recipient is WVIK - 10,000 dollars will help the station hire a young person interested in a career in broadcast journalism to work in the newsroom and help start their career. It will be the third installment of a 3-year grant from the foundation.
The foundation has distributed 4.9 million dollars since 2005, with money from the estate of Amy Helpenstell who died in 2003 from complications of an eating disorder.
