Alcoa Workers Pack Christmas Food Baskets

Workers at a Quad Cities factory want to brighten the holidays for hundreds of needy families. Thursday night  600 food baskets will be packed for this year's Alcoa Employees Christmas Basket campaign.

The campaign started in 1950, and each year hourly and salaried employees at the plant in Riverdale raise money through special fundraisers, individual contributions, and recycling beverage cans.
Recipients are nominated by Alcoa employees and selected by an employee committee.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
