Bitterly cold air has arrived. And forecasters from the Quad Cities National Weather Service say the low temperatures with winds of 15 to 25 MPH, will combine to create an extended period of wind chills of -30 below zero and even approaching -40 below in some areas. The weather service says the dangerous conditions will stick around for about 30 hours. So if you must spend any time outside, cover all exposed skin and dress in layers. It takes 15 minutes or less for frostbite to set in.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities say a winter storm is still forecast to produce 5 to 8 inches of snow, mainly along and north of Interstate 80. And after the snowfall ends, we can expect bitterly cold conditions with high temperatures below zero and wind chills approaching 35 below.
For roughly the northern two-thirds of the WVIK listening area including the Quad Cities and Aledo, a winter storm warning will be in effect today from 6 p.m. until tomorrow at 6 a.m. For counties further south, a winter weather advisory will be in effect.
