Hundreds of bike racers will fill the Village of East Davenport this weekend for the 51st annual Quad Cities Criterium. Races begin Monday morning at 9, and conclude with the men's feature race at 4:30 pm.
One of the organizers is John Harrington from the Quad Cities Bicycle Club. He says the top five finishers from the men's feature race last year, will return.
The course will be the same last last year, with the start and finish line on 11th Street, near Jersey Ridge.
One new feature this year will be the Healthy Habits Fat-erium - the "fat" refers to fat tire bikes that are very popular these days. Harrington says these tires are four times wider than racing bike tires.
The Quad Cities Criterium will conclude the annual weekend of bike racing in eastern Iowa - it starts Friday with the Burlington Road Races, followed by the Snake Alley Criterium in Burlington on Saturday. On Sunday the riders move to Muscatine for the Melon City Criterium, then compete in the Village of East Davenport on Monday.
