WIU QC groundbreaking

August  29, 2012

Construction will start soon on the next phase of Western Illinois University's Quad Cities campus. This (wed) afternoon, local and state officials broke ground for the second building at the new riverfront campus in Moline.
And on hand to help was Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. He called it a prudent investment by the people of the state.
He thanked John Deere for the donation of its former tech center to the state, and local members of the General Assembly who worked for many years to get the money for the new campus.
WIU president Jack Thomas called it an exciting time in the history of the university.
Joining Thomas and Quinn at the groundbreaking were students and administrators from Macomb and the Quad Cities, the WIU marching band, and even Colonel Rock the Third - the bulldog mascot for the university.
The first new building at the new campus opened last January.
