TouVelle Stadium Upgrades
February 11, 2014
A major renovation of the stadium at Bettendorf High School will begin in the spring. Today the school board approved spending 3.2 million dollars - for synthetic turf, new lights, a new track, updated entry-way, and a new concession facility.
The district's activities director, Kevin Skillet, says this will be the first major work at TouVelle Stadium since it opened about 30 years ago.
"Our music program will use that facility for marching band and others. Also our physical education department is going to utilize that. Really this is something that is going to impact every single student in our school district and we're excited about that."
The last event scheduled at the stadium is May 2nd, and Skillet says the contractor, Russell Construction, plans to start work the following day. The project should be finished by mid-August when school, and sports, resume.
The stadium will continue to host football games and track meets, but thanks to the new synthetic turf, he says boys and girls soccer will also play there starting in the fall.
