Rising Gas Prices
January 23, 2014
Gas prices usually don't change much during the winter, but this year they are. In recent weeks, they've gone up about 5 cents per gallon in Illinois and 11 cents in Iowa.
Beth Mosher from Triple-A says usually prices hold nearly steady until the spring.
"We have also seen some refinery issues on the Illinois side which have affected the midwest region. We normally do not see these type of prices rises in January."
In the Quad Cities, gas prices have jumped 20 cents per gallon during the past month - reaching $3.33 on the Illinois side, and $3.10 in the Iowa Quad Cities. Most of the difference between the two is because of the higher state gas tax in Illinois.
