Officer Involved Shooting in Davenport
October 10, 2013
One man is hospitalized, and two police officers are on leave, after an officer-involved shooting in Davenport this morning.
Police were called about 8 am to the area of 16th and Warren streets to investigate reports of a suspicious person looking into cars and garages. When he was caught by two officers, they spotted a gun in his waistband. And after dis-obeying orders not to move, he began to run and reach for his gun. One officer fired, and wounded the man who was taken to Genesis West Hospital where he underwent surgery. His condition has not been released.
One of the officers is a 33 year veteran of the Davenport department, while the other has served for four years. They're both on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. And the investigation will be handled by the Scott County Sheriff's Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
