Night Out Against Crime

August  06, 2013

Continuing its efforts to make Rock Island safer, tonight the Community Caring Conference will hold its annual Night Out Against Crime. It will include demonstrations, displays, and friendly competitions between Rock Island police officers and the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department.

Executive director, Connie Simmons, says this will be the 30th year the Community Caring Conference has hosted the "Night Out." The goal each year is to encourage city residents to meet their neighbors.

"If you want to reduce crime, it's neighbors helping neighbors and neighbors looking out for neighbors. It's always been that way - that's what Neighborhood Watch is all about. "

Simmons says in recent years between 200 and 300 people have attended.

In Longview Park, the NIght Out will feature taser and K-9 demonstrations and food served by the Rock Island police department. Additional sponsors include the park and recreation department and Target stores. The Night Out will be held from 5 until 8 pm
