New Director at Muscatine Art Center

January  07, 2013

A veteran museum director is the new leader of the Muscatine Art Center. A reception was held over the weekend officially to welcome Melanie Alexander.  She comes to the Art Center after serving as executive director of the Carl and Mary Koehler History Center in Cedar Rapids. Prior to that Alexander held a similar position for five years at the Muscatine History and Industry Center.
As she begins her new job, Alexander is planning several exhibits for the coming months following a closure of the Art Center gallery for renovations. In March the gallery will re-open with works by a Chinese artist, followed in May and June with prints by a local artist, then the Art Center will feature its "river collection" for the 75th anniversary of the Great River Road.
She's also working on long range plans with the the board, including fund-raising.   The Muscatine Art Center includes the gallery, and the adjacent Laura Musser Museum - a historic home.
