Knock Out Hunger Campaign

August  15, 2014

Wearing plastic aprons and hair-nets, employees of one local company spent part of the day helping the homeless. 450 people from Modern Woodmen's headquarters in Rock Island packaged 50,000 special macaroni and cheese meals as part of their campaign this summer to  Knock Out Hunger.

Spokeswoman, Jill Weaver, says employees signed up for one-hour shifts and worked in teams.

"We give back to our communities and we want to live that message here in the Quad Cities because our employees are also members. So we enjoy finding opportunities for our employees to come together and find ways to give back to the community, and this is an awesome way to do it."

The meals packaged today will be distributed next weekend by the River Bend Food Bank at a mobile food pantry, also sponsored by Modern Woodmen.

The packaged meals were developed by Outreach Incorporated and are high in vitamins, protein, calcium, and other minerals.
