John Deere Road Expansion Project Announced

October  10, 2012

One of the busiest streets in the Quad cities will be widened next year. Today Illinois Governor Pat Quinn came to Moline to announce plans for John Deere Road.
The 40 million dollar project will expand it from four lanes to six lanes and build an overpass at the 38th Street intersection. When finished, the new lanes will be added from 38th to 70th streets in Moline.
Governor Quinn said the project is vital to the Illinois Economy.
Secretary of Transportation, Ann Schnieder, says the elimination of left turns and other changes will make the intersection at 38th Street much safer.
The first phase of the project will be construction of the 38th street overpass, and will begin next June.  The second phase is the actual widening of John Deere Road and it will start in 2014.
The entire project will cost 47 million dollars, employ 600 construction workers, and be finished by 2016.
