Hiring our Heroes
July 29, 2013
A job fair for veterans and military spouses will be held in Davenport Tuesday. "Hiring our Heroes" is sponsored by the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Spokeswoman, Kim Morton, says the foundation began holding these job fairs two years ago, and there've been 570 so far.
"We want to make sure their skills are put back into the workforce. These are men and women who have so much to offer our country beyond their military service. They have skills they've learned while overseas and stationed here at home. And we just want to make sure those skills are going back into the American economy."
About 50 employers have registered to attend the job fair, ranging from local companies such as Alcoa and Tri-City Electric, to national employers including Verizon, the Union Pacific Railroad, and Bank of America. Morton says the Hiring our Heroes job fairs have led to the hiring of more than 20,000 veterans and their spouses.
The job fair will be held Tuesday at the Brady Street Armory on North Brady Street in Davenport. It starts with a workshop at 9 am, followed by the fair from 10 am until 1 pm.
