Fighting Retail Theft
July 25, 2014
Moline police are making a special effort to fight shoplifting. Earlier this month officers teamed up with several major retailers, and during a five-day period, arrested 40 people.
The charges include misdemeanor and felony retail theft. Participating businesses included Wal-Mart, Hy-Vee, JC Penny, Farm and Fleet, Gordmans, Von Maur, Victoria's Secret, and Hobby Lobby.
Most of those arrested are in the their 20's and 30's, with the youngest just 11, and the oldest 60.
Moline police say the special shoplifting detail will continue at South Park and along John Deere Road. They estimate more than one million dollars is lost to shoplifting each year in this area of the city.
