Cold Case Concluded

February  21, 2013

A confession has helped Moline police solve a 25 year old murder. Today the department announced Paul Anderson admitted to detectives he stabbed Laura Brown - her body was found in her apartment on 5th Avenue in Moline on March 6th, 1988.

Anderson is serving a life sentence at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison for the fatal shooting of her husband, Joe Brown. On the previous day, he was shot in Devil's Glen Park in Bettendorf and died two days later. Anderson was convicted and sentenced for Joe Brown's murder, but no one had ever been charged or tried for Laura Brown's death.

After a review of the cold case, detectives interviewed Anderson on Tuesday, and he confessed. Rock Island County state's attorney John McGehee decided not to pursue charges against Anderson - because he's already serving a life sentence with no chance of parole, but also at the request of Laura Brown's family.
