Boehner Visits Quad Cities for Schilling Campaign

August  11, 2014

The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives wants a local congressional candidate to join him on Capitol Hill next year. Today, John Boehner will attend a fundraiser in Colona for Illinois 17th district congressional candidate and fellow Republican, Bobby Schilling.

Bill Bloom, Chairman of the Rock Island County Republican Party, will attend the private event. He remembers when Boehner helped campaign for Schilling in 2012.

"The fact that the Speaker of the House is willing to come out and actively support Bobby Schilling and his campaign just underscores how important this election is to the entire Republican Party nationwide."

He says Boehner will probably talk about the challenges of passing legislation in a split house. He believes a visit from the Speaker of the House shows the importance of the Quad Cities to the nation's economy.

"We've got the Rock Island Arsenal here. We have a lot of companies that support national defense. Anybody who looks at this world--it's getting more dangerous. Facilities like the Arsenal need visible support in government.  I see Speaker Boehner's presence in Rock Island County as suppoorting that, as well."

The private fundraiser costs $100 and will be held at 11:30 am in Colona at a winery.  The stop is part of a campaign tour to support Illinois Republican candidates.

Last week, Speaker of the House Boehner visited Bolingbrook and Taylorville.
