Be Healthy QC Campaign

June  20, 2014

A local organization wants to put a fresh spin on eating fresh and living well. The Quad City Health Initiative launched this morning its Be Healthy QC Campaign, an effort to encourage healthy eating and and exercise in the area.

Executive Director Nicole Carkner says, with the QCHI in its 15th year, this campaign is a way to strengthen its reach. "We have been through the Quad City Health Initiative--and many of our partners have been-- interested in working to improve and increase healthier lifestyles in our community for some time. But what we've been missing is a way to talk about all of the work that we're doing across the community, across the various sectors across the community with a common name.

Carkner says a 25-member board oversees the initiative, and represents 18 participating organizations. The board created a new logo and has started thinking of ways to inform residents about new and old programs.

Also as part of the launch, QCHI presented its Dr. Richard "Bud" Phillis Healthy Community Leadership Award to Denise Bulat, executive director of the Bi-State Regional Commission and a former board chair.
