Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard

January  16, 2013

Local restaurants, hotels, museums, businesses, and other attractions are preparing for hundreds of guests this weekend. It'll be the 12th year the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau has sponsored "Be a Tourist in Your Own Back Yard."

Tim Heim, General Manager of Hotel Blackhawk, says 2012 was the first year the luxury hotel participated.

"It's good for us and puts 'heads in beds' so to speak. It's good for all the hotels during January, a slow month. Business won't pick up until next month with events at the River Center and Adler Theater."

Discounts and special events will be available from more than 45 businesses and organizations, including Isabel Bloom. Vicki Johnson, Director of Retail Operations, says on Saturday, people can tour the production facility, located on Federal Street in Davenport.

"We offer tours on Mondays, so the Saturday tours are a wonderful opportunity for people to see how an Isabel Bloom is created."

"Be a Tourist in Your Own Back Yard" begins on Friday and runs through Monday, the Martin Luther King holiday. More information is available at the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau's website
