Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard

January  14, 2014

Residents of the Quad Cities are being urged to visit the Quad Cities this weekend. For the 13th year, the Quad Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau is sponsoring the "Be a Tourist in Your Own Backyard Weekend."       Bureau spokeswoman, Jessica Waytenick, says 45 businesses are participating this year, offering special discounts and promotions, at hotels, restaurants, and various attractions.

"It brings hotel room-nights to the Quad Cities and increases our hotel room-nights as well as increasing traffic for the weekend to attractions and restaurants. That's the mid-winter boost that people need, and our businesses like to see."

Coupon booklets are available from participating businesses, and individual coupons can be downloaded from the bureau's website.

Tim Heim, senior vice president of the Black Hawk Hotel, says it's important for local residents to experience local attractions.

"Because locals are a big part of what makes the Quad Cities. You may be involved in an association or organization and maybe you can bring a regional meeting or annual meeting to the Quad Cities. So it's a great way for you to check out the venues and really see what the Quad Cities has to offer."

He emphasizes the variety of local attractions, including museums, a distillery, winery, gifts shops, and the John Deere Pavillion.
