Honor Flight of the Quad Cities

For the 45th time, a group of veterans will fly to Washington DC to see the military monuments dedicated to them. Plans were announced Wednesday morning for the next Honor Flight from the Quad Cities, on August 30th.

After taking thousands of World War Two and Korean War veterans to Washington DC, Honor Flight of the Quad Cities is now ready to start taking veterans from the Vietnam War. Tuesday it announced applications will be accepted, starting Wednesday.

Acting Honor Flight director, Steve Garrington, expects a "flood" of applications.

Pearl Harbor Day

The Milan American Legion will honor two veterans for their service when Pearl Harbor was attacked. This weekend's ceremony will be held at Legion Hall on 1st Avenue, where people can meet the two Iowa residents who survived the bombing.Alvis Taylor of Davenport was a dispatcher who coordinated ambulance runs for transporting victims of the attack. And Eldon Baxter of LeClaire was aboard the USS West Virginia on December 6th, 1944.
