The Quad City Symphony Orchestra will reach out to the community this weekend - with a Family Music Carnival Saturday and special concerts on Sunday.

Quad City Choral Arts

To celebrate its 101st season, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra will present a work that hasn't been performed in the area for 27 years. Mahler's Symphony #2, known as the "Resurrection Symphony," will be held Saturday and Sunday.

Jon Hurty is director of the Handel Oratorio Society and the Quad City Choral Arts. He says they've been practicing every week since January.

The Handel Oratorio Society, which includes the Augustana Choir, and the Quad City Choral Arts, will perform during the last movement.

"100 Years, 100 Cellos" officially ends tonight, when the Quad City Symphony Orchestra holds the Cello-Bration. At the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, the 100 cellos decorated by local artists will be auctioned to online and in-person bidders.

Proceeds from the event will support the QCSO's education programs.

All 100 cellos have been on display at the Figge this week, leading up to tonight's Cello-Bration.
