A new project in Rock Island is designed to promote healthy lifestyles and better transportation. Monday, the city and MetroLink cut the ribbon on TOD, the transit oriented development, that includes 34 apartments, a new transit station, plus bikeway and infrastructure improvements. Rock Island Mayor Dennis Pauley says residents of the new housing development, called The Locks, will be able to walk to the new transit station.

Local groups want to help uninsured residents of the Illinois Quad Cities sign up for health care. The second open enrollment period under the Affordable Care Act has begun, and counselors are available.

UnityPoint Health Trinity in Rock Island is scheduling appointments through the February 15th deadline. Spokeswoman, Linaka Kain, says the goal is to let people know their options.  

A group called The Project of the Quad Cities in Moline also has counselors on hand to help people sign up for health insurance. 

A surprise gift will help Habitat for Humanity build another new home in the Quad Cities. An anonymous donor, from another state, has pledged 60,000 dollars to honor Pope Francis for his commitment to social justice, and in the donor's words, "re-invigorating the Catholic Church."

After using borrowed meeting sites for the last year, a local congregation has found a new home. This weekend, the Metropolitan Community Church will dedicate its new church in Davenport.

Despite major changes, SouthPark Mall in Moline will still be the site for this year's annual community dinner hosted by Mr. Thanksgiving. Today Bob Vogelbaugh invited everyone to his Thanksgiving feast, which will be held where the Old Navy store used to be. He also requested donations to help pay for the huge meal.This is Vogelbaugh's 44th year hosting the holiday dinner. But, he says it took until last spring for him to realize this is his calling.

Veterans, their families, and other local residents gathered on Arsenal Island today for the annual Veteran's Day ceremony in the National Cemetery. It included speeches, placing of a wreath, and an honor salute.  One of the speakers was Iowa Second District Congressman Dave Loebsack, who shared his personal connection to Veteran's Day. 

Lieutenant General Michael Tucker also honored veterans who have "given the ultimate sacrifice for their country."
