Even though Augustana College has changed a great deal since he was a student, the role of trustees has not. That's according to John Murabito, the incoming chair of the board of trustees. 

Messiah Moving to Easter

Handel Oratorio Society

After more than 100 years, a Christmas tradition in the Quad Cities is going to move back to when it was originally intended - at Easter. Instead of December, "Messiah" will be performed by the Handel Oratorio Society next March.  

Augustana College and the Rock Island Public Library have signed an agreement. The new, reciprocal agreement allows students to borrow from the city library, and opens up the college's Tredway Library to city residents.

Original members of the Rainbow Coalition joined a panel discussion at Augustana College Wednesday night. The multi-racial Coalition was formed in Chicago during the 1960s to work against racism, poverty and oppression. 

Mark Schwiebert

After years of research and writing, Mark Schwiebert has decided to take the next step in his efforts to fight climate change. The former Rock Island mayor and alderman has established a fund that will award grants each year for environmental education and studies.

A long and expensive renovation project is nearly finished at Augustana College. Final cleaning and touch-up is going on, as students prepare to move in next week to Westerlin Residence Hall, on the campus in Rock Island.

A third college has been added to a scholarship program offered by the Quad Cities River Bandits. Wednesday team officials announced the gift of $15,000 to the Eastern Iowa Community Colleges.

Campaign to "Hire Local"

Local 25 Plumbers and Pipefitters

"Quad City Built, Quad City Strong" - that's the slogan for a new campaign promoting the benefits of hiring local workers. The campaign, in print, television, on billboards, and in social media is sponsored by Local 25 in Rock Island of the Plumbers and Pipefitters union.

Augustana College

The "A Team" leaves for China on Tuesday. The ensemble from Augustana College's Chamber Singers will perform in an international music festival, and sing in four concerts, two in Shanghai and two in Nanjing.
