YMCA Opens "New" Branch in Downtown Moline

The Two Rivers YMCA has expanded to downtown Moline. Wednesday it held a ribbon cutting for the Bass Street YMCA and Sylvan Boathouse, at the north end of 17th Street.

Spokeswoman Amy Johnson says the Y has offered limited programs at the site since 2010 when it merged with the Quad Cities Rowing Club. But as of this week, it's a full-fledged branch of the Y.

"It's a smaller location but we can still do a lot of the services that Two Rivers does. We're in downtown Moline so we attract a noon crowd that comes in to do their workout. A lot of people come in to do a noon class that we offer every day."

Johnson calls it a "mini wellness center" or "an express YMCA"

And since the rowers generally work out early in the morning, and late in the afternoon, there's plenty of other times for other members to use the new branch of the Y.

After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
