News headlines for the morning of August 16, 2017

  • An agency that's protected Quad Cities children for 40 years will celebrate its anniversary tonight. The Child Abuse Councilwas founded in 1977  as the Council on Children at Risk to prevent abuse and neglect.

  • The first group of inductees into the Iowa Latino Hall of Fame has been announced. The first three members are long-time activists in the state.

  • The Illinois House plans to gauge support for changes Governor Bruce Rauner made with an amendatory veto of school funding legislation. There will be no immediate vote on overriding the veto when the House convenes today. Instead, Democrats will consider a new bill that incorporates the Republican governor's changes. 

  • Iowa US Senator Joni Ernst says passing tax reform will be difficult, but she hopes to see a bill move forward this fall.

Tomorrow, a 50/50 chance for rain tomorrow morning, then cloudy and a high near 82. Sunshine by Friday, before slight chances for rain over the weekend.
