UPDATE: Moline Hearings about Mayoral Petitions Set

A judge has filled an open seat on Moline's electoral board, and it will meet again later this week. During Monday's hearings about challenges to nominating petitions filed by several candidates, City Clerk Tracy Koranda recused herself from serving on the three-member electoral board.

Late Tuesday afternoon, the city announced Rock Island County Chief Judge Walter Braud appointed Connie Mohr-Wright as Koranda's replacement. She serves as Supervisor of South Moline Township. And the Moline electoral board will reconvene at 9 am on Friday.

It's expected to consider Mayor Scott Raes' challenges of nominating petitions filed by mayoral candidates, Bob Vogelbaugh and Stephanie Acri, plus Sonia Berg who's running for city council. It may also consider Dick Potter's challenge of Alderman John Zelnio's petition.

We'll have to wait to find out who will run for Moline mayor next year. This morning, the electoral board met to consider Mayor Scott Raes' challenge of nominating petitions filed by Bob Vogelbaugh and Stephanie Acri, who plan to run for mayor. Raes says they're not numbered as required by law.

Shortly after Chair and 6th Ward Alderman, Kevin Schoonmaker, opened the meeting, City Clerk Tracy Koranda recused herself from serving on the electoral board since she will be called as a witness.

Schoonmaker says it's now up to Rock Island County Chief Judge Walter Braud to appoint a replacement for Koranda on the three-member electoral board.

The next hearing won't be scheduled for at least a couple of days to give the required 48 hours notice to the public.

Raes also filed a challenge against Sonia Berg, who's plans to run for at-large alderman. And Dick Potter, a council candidate in the 4th Ward is challenging current Alderman, John Zelnio. Like the mayoral challenges, those requests are also based on a lack of numbering on petition pages. Hearings on those challenges have also been postponed.

Previous version

We'll have to wait to find out whether two Moline mayoral candidates will be on the ballot next Spring. This morning, the electoral board met to consider Mayor Scott Raes' challenge of nominating petitions filed by Bob Vogelbaugh and Stephanie Acri.

Shortly after Chair and 6th Ward Aldermen, Kevin Schoonmaker, opened the meeting, City Clerk Tracy Koranda recused herself from serving on the electoral board since she will be called as a witness. Schoonmaker says its up to the chief Judge to approve a replacement for the clerk on the three-member board.

An afternoon hearing about challenges to the candidacies of 4th Ward Alderman John Zelnio and Sonia Berg will probably end the same way.
