The Mississippi River in the Quad Cities is about a half a foot above flood level, at 15.5 feet.

The National Weather Service expects the river to rise slighting today before reaching its crest Tuesday at 15.7 feet.

The Mississippi is beginning to descend in Dubuque, after cresting at 17.2 feet over the weekend. The river should  reach below flood stage by Thursday.

Downstream at Muscatine, the river is expected to rise about a half a foot before it reaches its crest two feet above flood stage Wednesday.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
