Moline may open the new bridge to Sylvan Island before Christmas.
Lori Wilson, Parks and Recreation Director, says the city closed the old, pedestrian and bike bridge because it was dangerous. The old bridge has been removed. And a new one is in place, but workers are still securing it to the shores.
Wilson says the park on Sylvan Island remains open. But ever since the bridge was closed, the only way to get there is by boat.
Sylvan Island is located near the border of Moline and Rock Island, and south of Arsenal Island.
