Stricker: Pork Chops, Community Make JDC Unique

Lacy Scarmana/WVIK
Steve Stricker is the only player in JDC history to win the tournament three years in a row. His pictures hang on the wall in the TPC Deere Run press room.

A three-time champion of the John Deere Classic is excited to be back at TPC Deere run in Silvis.

Steve Stricker says it's great to play in a tournament known not only for it's exceptional golf, but its tasty pork chops.

"I mean, what more do you need, right? And it's a blue collar area, people work hard, it's Midwest values," he said. "You put all of that together and this is a great event."

The 50-year-old Stricker is the only player in JDC history to win the tournament three years in a row, from 2009 to 2011, but he says the game has changed since then.

"There's times when my body doesn't quite let me do some of the things that I'm thinking about," Stricker said. "You know it's a different game nowadays, but there's a lot of things I've learned in the 20-plus years that I've played that hopefully I can use to my advantage."

The four-day PGA tournament starts Thursday and the winner on Sunday takes home $1 million.

Last year's champion, Ryan Moore, is also competing.
