Severe Temperatures Expected in the Quad Cities

National Weather Service

Extreme weather continues in the Quad Cities. The National Weather Service in Davenport is warning people to prepare for extreme heat Thursday and Friday. Meteorologists predict temperatures will be in the mid-nineties on both days.

Meteorologist Tom Philip says the heat index will come close to 110 degrees because of the buildup of heat and humidity across the Midwest.
Tips to deal with the hot weather include staying indoors if possible. And Philip says  make sure pets stay cool and hydrated.

The excessive heat watch will be in effect from Thursday morning until Friday evening.

The heat wave follows severe storms that created six tornadoes in Iowa on Sunday. Philip says the strongest one hit Vinton, just north of Cedar Rapids, with peak winds of 135 miles per hour.
