Second Annual No Show Gala

Friendship Manor

The public is welcome to not attend a party this fall.  Friendship Manor in Rock Island is hosting its second annual "No Show Gala."  The non-profit is asking for donations without the hassle of organizing a party.

Director of Development for the retirement community, Jeff Condit, says it's just easier for people who want to support Friendship Manor.

"We just get right to the heart of the matter and that is we skip all the expense and go right to the precedes.  It saves people having to show up, get all dressed up, fussed up, messed up.  So they stay home and enjoy themselves and they just send their check and everybody's happy."

The original idea came to Condit after talking to relatives in Atlanta where No Show Galas are common.  And he's received phone calls from donors who say "how excited they are to not see him."  Last year's fundraiser exceeded his goal.

Friendship Manor will accept donations through the end of the month.  The total so far is $75,000.
