Digital learning, professional development, and more support for students and teachers. Those are key parts of a proposed achievement plan for the Davenport School District. The board discussed the five-year plan earlier this week and may vote on it this month.

Michelle O'Neill reports.

Summary

Julie Staszewski is the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for Davenport schools. With support from administrators, she says the goal of the new plan is to allow teachers to teach, so students can succeed and even excel.

Another part of the achievement plan is "The Davenport Way." The school district started implementing the program two years ago. It helps students solve problems with attendance, behavior, and mental health. And the final element is high quality instruction, including new technology.

Staszewski says next fall, each student will be able to use a Chromebook or similar device every day. In August, the principals and lead teachers from all the Davenport schools will learn about the new, five-year achievement plan. Staszewski says they'll decide which resources will help their students the most and create individuals plan for each school.
