Rock River Rising

National Weather Service
The Rock River Wednesday in Moline

The Rock River is rising and will reach flood stage soon in the Quad Cities. It’s already at flood stage in Joslin Wednesday, and should reach that level in Moline Thursday night.

The National Weather Service says the Rock at Joslin is at flood stage now and should begin to rise tomorrow, reaching one foot over flood stage by Saturday. At that level, water affects some unprotected farmland and Lundeens Landing Campground.

The Rock is half a foot below flood stage Wednesday in Moline. The Weather Service predicts it will reach flood stage sometime Thursday night and crest Friday half a foot higher.

At that level, water affects 60th Street in Moline and South and North Shore Drives.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
