A private school in Bettendorf will once again have students living on campus. Rivermont Collegiate has decided to bring back "boarding" students, starting next fall.
Headmaster Max Roach says after talking with directors, donors, and studying financial projections, he concluded it would help the school - financially of course, but also improve its programs and "culture."
"From a cultural standpoint our students are looking forward to meeting kids from all over the world. But also just the increase in energy that comes when students are hanging out and having fun on campus."
Rivermont currently has 40 students in grades 9 through 12. He hopes to start with 10 to 15 boarding students next year, and eventually have up to 40.
Roach is confident he'll be able to find these new students, and still be very selective about who's admitted.
"Our admissions director just got back from a tour of China and Korea, and soon will be reaching out into Central and South America, then eventually to Europe, seeking kids, like I said, the best from all over the world."
The first boarding students at Rivermont will live in the Carriage House, with additional construction in the coming years so there are more beds and facilities on campus.
