River Levels Rising in Davenport

Credit National Weather Service

Crews in Davenport will place "high water" signs near the Mississippi River today, to prepare for potential flooding next week. Friday morning, the Mississippi is about three feet below flood stage. But, it's expected to start rising slowly Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service says the river should continue to rise next week, and crest one foot over flood stage by next Friday.

Crews will place high water signs along South Concord Street today, and the street could be closed as early as Sunday.

Portions of the bike path between Credit Island and Marquette Street will likely be covered with water this weekend. But, Davenport officials say events at LeClaire Park should not be affected by flooding.

Residents can pick up sandbags today at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Davenport plant can be accessed by taking Wapello to Railroad Avenue.

The Wapsipinicon River at Dewitt is currently three-tenths of a foot above flood stage. It's expected to start rising Sunday and crest at two-and-a-half feet over flood stage by the end of next week.
