One of the busiest streets in Rock Island will be re-surfaced, we just don't know when.
Public Works Director, Larry Cook, says all the planning and design work are done for 38th Street - from 7th Avenue by Augustana College, to Black Hawk Road, a distance of 2 1/2 miles. The city will pay for 20 per cent of the 6 million dollar project, with the state of Illinois taking care of the rest.
He thinks the project will be bid this year.
"It is on the state schedule for this year, but it depends on how quick the state will bid-let it and get it out on the streets for the bidding. I wish we had some say in that - we do not. We've done our due diligence, we've done our job, we're waiting on the state."
Cook says the work could be done this year, but next year is more likely.
He's also waiting to hear when work can begin on 18th Avenue in Rock Island - re-surfacing it from 17th Street, east to the Moline border - nearly 2 miles.
