Repair work is scheduled to begin Friday at the Campbell's Island State Historic Site.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says, weather permitting, Valley Construction will repair the sidewalks and re-seal the parking lot.
The cost of the project is 34,000 dollars, and it should be completed by the first week of July.
According to the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency, the monument and site commemorate a battle in the War of 1812. On July 19, 1814, a pro-British band of Sauk Indians led by Black Hawk attacked a force of US soldiers under the command of Lieutenant John Campbell. The Americans were defeated, and lost sixteen lives.
It was dedicated in 1908.
