Repairs may begin soon on the Bass Street fountain in downtown Moline. Tuesday night the city council will consider spending up to 37,000 dollars as its share of the cost.
The total cost to repair the fountain, first installed about 15 years ago, is estimated at 82,000 dollars. The Special Service Area, which raises money for downtown projects, would contribute 45,000 dollars for the project.
Aldermen will consider appropriating 29,000 dollars from money set aside for contingency projects, and have city crews demolish the existing fountain - equal to about 7,000 dollars.
Work might begin as soon as next month.
