QC Progressive Wants Bigger Raise for Troops

Maria Dickmann, Linked In profile

A Davenport resident is inviting people to support raises for members of the military. Tomorrow, Maria Dickmann will host a letter-writing session, asking congress leaders and the president to give a bigger raise to soldiers, sailors, marines, and others.

Dickmann, who's a member of the Davenport City Council, especially wants people who call themselves progressives to write letters of support for troops and veterans.

"It seems like the media drumbeat is progressives don't support the war and therefore, they don't support the troops. But I don't think that's accurate, at least from cases I've seen."

She says the current proposal is to give troops a 1.6% raise. But Dickmann is suggesting 2.5%.

The letter-writing campaign will run tomorrow from 3 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion at 702 West 35th Street in Davenport. Dickmann says it's not a partisan event. She and her progressive friends welcome everyone who wants to participate.
