QC Food Hub Re-opens

A store in Davenport that features locally-grown food will re-open Friday after extensive remodeling. The Food Hub in the Freight House along River Drive will hold a ribbon cutting.

Since it first opened in 2012, Operations Manager Liz Hogan says the non-profit store relied on donations for its furnishings and equipment, but that made the store dark and dingy. And they wanted to attract more customers.

"We want customers to shop in our store. We want people to come take our classes. And we thought if we had a warm, welcoming atmosphere, we would see more people in our store."

Hogan says buying food at the Food Hub supports local farmers, and the local economy.

"A customer buys the product and the Food Hub pays the farmer. The farmer can then spend the money in the Quad Cities. So your dollar really stays in the Quad Cities when you shop local."

Money for the remodeling came from donations and a federal grant.

The grand reopening event will be held Friday at 2 pm.

After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
