Possible Theft from City of Moline

An investigation will probably start soon into possible theft from the city of Moline. Tuesday night, members of the city council gave their preliminary approval to starting a forensic audit and hiring outside legal counsel.

Following Tuesday's committee of the whole meeting, the council will hold a special meeting Friday morning to give its formal approval.

A press release from the council says it's been made aware of "allegations of employee misconduct" and decided an "independent investigation" is warranted. That will include hiring an outside auditor, and a lawyer to oversee the investigation and possible disciplinary and legal action after that.

The council proposes spending up to 20,000 dollars for the outside counsel, and up to 100,000 for the forensic audit.

The special meeting is set for 8 am Friday in city hall.
