A month ago, police asked Quad Cities residents to lock their cars and take their keys. But it didn't work. Since the beginning of this year, the Davenport Police Department is averaging two to three stolen cars per day.
Today, Chief Paul Sikorski released a new, Lock It Up video (below) for people to share and help spread the word about the potential consequences of leaving cars running and un-attended, or un-locked with the keys inside.
Bettendorf Police Chief Phil Redington says it's been a week since a car was reported stolen in his city. But Wednesday morning, a resident saw a couple people looking through cars. He set off his car's alarm and chased them away.
Captain Ron Erickson from the Rock Island County Sheriff's Office says people who live in rural areas are not immune to having their cars stolen.
And in Moline, a police department spokesman says the number of stolen vehicles has increased over the last month.
