New Leader for Lee Enterprises

Lee Enterprises has a new leader. The newspaper company based in Davenport says at Wednesday's annual meeting, Mary Junck was elected executive chairman, and Kevin Mowbray succeeded her as president and chief executive officer.

He was also elected to the board of directors.

Junck had served as president and ceo for 15 years, while Mowbray most recently was executive vice president and chief operating officer. He began his career with the company in 1986, selling advertising in his hometown of Kewanee.

Lee Enterprises owns 46 daily newspapers, including the Quad City Times, and nearly 300 specialty publications, in 22 states.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
