Following a resounding "yes" from voters, work has begun on a new jail and sheriff's department offices for Clinton County. Ground was broken Monday in the parking lot of the current justice center in Clinton for the 22 million dollar project.
Margaret Kuhl, from the Clinton County Justice Coordinating Commission, says last spring count residents approved a funding referendum with 75 per cent of the vote.
And one of the main features of the new jail will be space for programs for inmates.
The new jail will have room for up to 112 beds versus only 44 in the current one.
It should be completed in about a year and-a-half.
