Muscatine Community College Updating 1970s Library

Muscatine Community College is now $150,000 closer to bringing its 40-year-old library into the 21st century. This week, the college announced a donation from Kent Corporation will help make it possible to start construction on Loper Hall next spring.

President Naomi DeWinter says the two-story library and student center was built in 1977, and is still not equipped to handle today's technology.
DeWinter says the renovation will include new wireless technology, and should help the library reduce its collection of books and hard copies.

The $1.5 million project also includes a new cafe, quiet work places for students, indoor and outdoor seating, and an additional classroom.

Muscatine Community College decided to move forward with Loper Hall's renovation in May, when the Carver Trust donated $750,000 for the project.

DeWinter says construction should begin in April, and be completed by the fall of next year.
