News headlines for the morning of October 2, 2017

  • At least 50 people were killed and more than 200 wounded when a gunman opened fire on an outdoor music festival on the Las Vegas Strip in the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history. Authorities have identified the suspected gunman in the Sunday night shooting as Stephen Paddock. Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said officers confronted Paddock on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino across the street from the concert. Paddock is dead.

  • The deadline to submit renewal applications for the program known as DACA is Thursday, but some people may be struggling to find enough money for the application fee. Last month, President Trump decided to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, though he's allowing one final renewal for people whose waivers are set to expire next March.

  • A campaign has started to collect a special type of clothing. Through November 1, Underwear Because We Care is gathering donations that will be given to a variety of organizations that provide services in the Quad-Cities for the needy and homeless.
