Mississippi Cresting in the QC

The crest of the Mississippi River has reached the Quad Cities.

Friday afternoon, the river reached 2.4 feet over flood stage, and it's expected to hold at that level through Saturday. Then it'll fall very slowly and drop to flood stage by late next week, probably on Friday.

At Muscatine Friday the river is 2.5 feet over flood stage. The forecast calls for it to rise one-tenth of a foot, and stay at the level through Monday, then begin to fall.

And at Burlington, the Mississippi is 3 feet over flood stage, and expected to rise an additional 3-tenths of a foot and crest on Sunday.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
