Midwest Week: Early NFL Star From Clinton

Neal Rozendaal

One of the best players in the early days of the National Football League grew up in Clinton and played for the University of Iowa. And there's a re-newed effort to add him to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

On Midwest Week, Herb Trix's guest is Roger Ruthhart, editor of the Dispatch and Rock Island Argus.

You can also hear Midwest Week Fridays on WVIK at 6:20 pm during All Things Considered.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
