Liggins' Defense Team Wants To Relocate Trial

file
Stanley Liggins appears in court for a hearing.

Stanley Liggins' defense attorneys would like to try his case outside of Scott County.

Liggins has been twice convicted for the 1990 murder of nine-year-old Jennifer Lewis. His first two convictions have been overturned, and he faces a third trial in May.

The defense argues Liggins cannot get a fair trial in the Quad Cities, and they would prefer to try the case in Waterloo or Des Moines.

In a pre-trial hearing Tuesday, Liggins' defense attorneys called a witness from Personal Marketing Research, which surveyed 400 people from the potential jury pool. According to the survey, 73 percent of people had not formed an opinion on whether Liggins is guilty. 27 percent did have an opinion.

Prosecutors say that shows there's no need to move Liggins trial somewhere else.
